ART
As an artist, Sony Purba expresses herself through various types of medium, appreciating the freedom to explore her voice in art through drawing, painting and including creating sculptures out of meticulously altered material.
Her architecture background often influences her artistic language. She is passionate about the multifaceted creative world and derives personal inspiration in the dialogue between art and architecture.
Cultural relevance also finds a home in Sony’s art. She is an avid world traveler. Her life experiences through her journeys can be seen imaginatively expressed in her works.
Sony also believes that each person has a responsibility, in whatever scale and form each can afford, to help the environment. One of the many desires she has, to accomplish her part, is to reform wasted objects and completely reimagine their new forms in the most unexpected way. Currently, Sony is working with used bottle corks that she found to be the perfect waste product to experiment with. They are mostly used once with a single purpose. Through many trials of ideas and methods, she has successfully reformed, reimagined, and created beautiful sculptures with these renewed materials. Some are even designed as functional light sculptures to compliment any interior designs.
Sony is very excited to continuously creating new forms with endless possibilities from what once were such limited use and wasted objects.
